Hong Kong based In-between Architects redesign Mercer Hotel using translucent screens.

The concept is based on the very first Mercer Hotel at Soho of New York City, and was fascinated by 'home away from home’ and loft approach by Christian Liaigre.   The challenge is how to turn the compact one-bedroom suite into a cozy and flexible space that could guarantee return guests and treat it as second home.

The redesign of Mercer Hotel is more than a hotel project but to rethink hotel design in post-pandemic.  Guests will want the assurance of clean space, both physically and mentally.  Traditional carpet tiles are replaced by woven vinyl for its hard wearing and easy cleanings.  Laminate surfaces with antibacterial treatment was applied as wall panels.

The use of sliding panels within the hotel suite allows flexibility of opening up totally the one bedroom into a loft style unit.  These features provide guests the choice to personalise their space and to achieve the sense of comfort which is different to all individuals.
